Your Parisian Style Apartment

Vintage mirror

This is the typical object that you will find in every Parisian apartment. Generally it is found on a fireplace, and will immediately add character to the room and make it look bigger. These mirrors are a perfect mix between elegance and vintage. Getting a couple of them has always been the first purchase I’ve done when moving to a new place.

Look at this selection of my favorite vintage golden mirrors.

Vintage rugs

In case you hadn’t noticed, we, I mean French people, love mixing vintage and modern items. But be careful to do it right! One way to avoid “faux pas” is vintage rugs. You know me, I have a preference for light, neutral tones, but a beautiful, colorful vintage rug can really brighten up a room. Not all of us are lucky enough to find handmade vintage rugs, so here is a selection from my favorite home decor stores.

Candles

You’ll notice that even though I’m vocally obsessed about candles, it’s not the first item on this list! You should know that Parisians altogether do really enjoy candles. Not only do they give your room an enchanting scent and a wholesome glow, they are a true French decorative object. I don’t know how to explain it but they give a cozy and warm side to the room. I couldn’t help myself and share with you my favorite candles.

Touch of gold

It’s pretty rare to see a Parisian apartment without a single touch of gold. Whether it’s a small detail or a dominant piece, gold is present in our apartments, because of its ability to immediately brighten, deepen, and sublime any room. One quirky way I like to use golden item is through golden cutlery; it makes my tables ever so much more elegant! Here’s how to put a touch of gold in your home.

Touch of Marble

While we’re talking noble materials, let’s have a chat about marble. Nothing screams “timeless elegance” like a marble tray, a marble table, or a marble countertop; either way, marble is very Parisian. Here are a few items that can help you make your apartment a little more Parisian.

Olive trees indoor

Plants dress up a room, they give a more lively, wild side to a room. I’m a plant lady, but not your typical plant lady. I’m seriously, deeply, forever obsessed with olive trees. I love their meaning, I love the soft colors of their leaves (did you know each had at least two? I know, crazy.) and the noble character they add to my home. For those who don’t have a green thumb, I’ve got you covered! I’ve made a selection of very realistic fake olive trees.

Armchairs

Armchairs are the little black dress of home decor. Not only do they add an incomparable coziness to any room, they also have a comfort purpose and after a long day, that’s all we want and need: elegantly restful spots. Hereafter is a selection in which I could see myself lounging all evening after a long day editing in the studio.

Chandeliers

You will not find anything more exquisite than chandeliers, when it comes to Parisian decoration. Whether you’re picking a timeless crystal chandelier or a more contemporary one, the dimension it’ll give the room will be second to none. Here are some of my favorites.

Vases

What would be a Parisian apartment without vases? Please note that they are often left empty, as we consider them as purely decorative objects, in their own right. Of course a beautiful plant or flowers are still welcome! In my home, I have displayed vases of different colors and shapes on a shelf and on the floor, and I also get very warm compliments about them. Picking vases can be a bit overwhelming so here is a selection to help get inspired!

Art pieces

Beauty raises your spirit, your energy, your mood. Art has the same effect on people. Dress up your walls, your floors, your shelves. Let’s make art great again! We Parisians like to not hang paintings and have them on the floor, or on a fireplace. It’s the most “négligé” we’ll ever be when it comes to art.

Coffee Table Books

Coffee table books are a different kind of book. They aren’t meant to be read, but just to be, and look beautiful. It’s the kind you don’t feel embarrassed having on display, it’s the kind that elevates your home, and your coffee table notably. Whether they’re about art, living in the Hamptons or fashion, their covers are statements of your taste. So let’s pick well! Here is a selection of titles I either own, or would get.

Mantel Fireplace

A true, proper, Parisian apartment, must have a fireplace. Whether it’s a real or fake one, I can promise you it takes things to another level. I’ll let you in on a little secret: most Parisian fireplaces are out of order, but they serve mainly as decorative objects. I mean, where would you put your frames, mirrors and candles? Exactly. I found ways to help you make your apartment look more Parisian, have a peek at the mantel fireplaces I chose.

Touch of wood

Yes we live in the heart of a big city but it’s important to stay connected with nature. That’s why you will always find a touch of wood in Parisian apartments. Think of bedside tables, wooden trays, or even baskets! What’s great with wood is how versatile it is. Play with it, have fun! Look at this collection to inspire you.
